On the day after the first debate within the UMP, Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie expressed her disappointment that the rules were changed at the last minute and that the topic of discussion, freedom and economic freedom, was a subject in which there was little disagreement.
"That did not make debate so much because the subject selected is probably most consensual (with the UMP), freedom, and economic freedom (...) I would have liked to go further, I had things to say (...) I complied with the rules, others did not (...) [a debate] is when two people on the same question express their point of view."
Alliot-Marie still has not yet declared whether she will seek the nomination for the presidency, but will do so before January.
