The UMP is ready to hold three debates around France to educate their party members before the January primary. The first will take place on December 9, another on the 15th, and the final one on December 21. The only debators as of now will be Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy and Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie. Barring any embarrassing mistake, it is likely that Sarkozy will slide through these debates unscathed and receive a strong mandate from his party in January. Segolene Royal obviously benefited tremendously from the press coverage of her primary campaign, so we will have to see if Sarkozy and generate such momentum coming into the general election.
