Royal goes to Israel
After meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas yesterday morning, French Socialist Segolene Royal met with a group of Palestinian students, where she again called for a resumption of financial aid to the Palestinian government. Royal avoided saying anything controversial during the Abbas meeting, and even went out of her way to praise him for working to create a viable Palestinian government. To top off these events, Royal met with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni in the afternoon. Livni is an interesting figure: she is a former Mossad officer, probably the second most powerful person in Israel, and like Royal, a woman. Like Royal she has several children despite her hectic career, and is one of the most respected politicians in Israel. Considering Israelis move around their top government posts like musical chairs, it's entirely possible if not probable that she will end up Prime Minsiter some day. Royal should have taken notes.
