After meeting with French wildlife TV star Nicolas Hulot, Socialist candidate Segolene Royal has said that she will sign his environment pact, which focuses on promoting sustainable development, carbon taxes, and a new agricultural policy. Hulot is quite popular in France, and had said earlier that he would run for president if Royal and Sarkozy did not sign his pact. Sarkozy beefed up his environmental credentials last week with the introduction of several new proposals and a meeting with former US Vice President Al Gore, a strong opponent of global warming, but has not yet signed Hulot's pact. Apparently Royal wasn't willing to take the chance that he'd run.
