A poll taken on December 15 was interesting in that it included current President Jacques Chirac in the first round of voting. If he was ever thinking of running again, he should take notice. Sarkozy and Royal won their usual 30% +or- 2%, but Chirac came in at a depressing 5%. Jean-Marie Le Pen, who earlier this season polled as high as 17%, has leveled out 11%, and Francois Bayrou, the candidate of the centrist UDF, is at an unmoved 8%.
