Segolene Royal is continuing to feel the heat from comments made by her partner and Socialist party leader Francois Hollande this past week. Hollande proposed eliminating tax cuts for those earning more than 4000 euro/month, leading the right to label Royal nothing more than a traditional socialist. Yet even the Royal campaign appeared to be frustrated. One of her advisers added that "By trying to stay relevant, François Hollande is going too far."
Interestingly, Time magazine has an article titled "A Royal Lesson for Hillary?" in this week's edition, focusing on these policy battles between Hollande and Royal.
To protect their relationship, the couple could learn from American political pugilists James Carville and Mary Matalin, who keep things interesting at home by earning their keep doing battle for opposite sides. Perhaps Hollande ought to be advising Royal's probable conservative foe, Nicolas Sarkozy? And there's got to be a lesson somewhere in all of this for Hillary Clinton.
