UMP candidate Nicolas Sarkozy has come under increasing pressure to quite his post as Interior Minister ahead of this year's presidential election. While today he confirmed that "I will not be a Minister of Interior Department at the time of the presidential election", he has as of yet refused to set a certain date of departure.
Sarkozy also addressed Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin unwillingness to support him, saying "I respect the hesitation of the Prime Minister." After sidestepping that with much diplomacy, Sarkozy sounded encouraged for his nomination this Sunday: "I am convinced that it is necessary that I gather, that it is necessary that I alleviate and that there is a very great will of mobilization on behalf of our electorate, which will result in a very unanimous congress and very enthusiastic Sunday."
