Candidates don't want debates
A group of French journalists have launched an appeal to get public debates between the presidential candidates before the first round of voting at the end of April. The director of information at the public television station France 3, who was sent the journalists' appeal, said that he "would adore to organize some" debates and that "the confrontation of ideas would be more interesting, more democratic".
However, it appears that the candidates themselves hold slighlty different opinions. According to him, with the exception of Communist Party candidate Marie-George Buffet, all the rest have either rejected the offer or refused to respond.
