Today Bernard Kouchner, the co-founder of Doctor's Without Borders and a Segolene Royal supporter, said in an editorial that the Socialists should seize the opportunity to ally with the UDF's Francois Bayrou, a proposition first voiced by former Socialist PM Michel Rocard yesterday.
"For the first time in thirty years, the party of Francois Bayrou has not challenged the reforming left. Let us seize this chance...like our European neighbors, able to succeed where we failed, this left should not refuse alliance with a renovated center.
I supported sufficiently Ségolène Royal and worked with her to know that she can orchestrate this essential change calmly. I know that alliances will be tied only after the first round."
