Careful what you wish for...

As explained in the last post, the most startling thing three weeks before the election is the large number of still undecided voters. And even stranger number, as released by a recent BVA poll, is who the French actually wish to win the election.

According to the poll, 31% of voters want Socialist Segolene Royal to win, with 29% each wanting Sarkozy and Bayrou to win. It would logically follow that each would gather a roughly equivalent amount of votes in first round polls, but with Sarkozy far in the lead and Bayrou trailing, that is certainly not the case.

In other random Royal news, a Turkish paper says that during an interview with an Armenian magazine, Segolene Royal said that:

"Turkey should make progress about recognizing its crimes in the past. If I win the election, my official opinion for foreign affairs will be making the denial of genocide a crime...Turkey should recognize its crimes in the past to become a member of EU."

Royal has been the only major candidate open to Turkish entry into the EU, a position which outgoing President Jacques Chirac also shares.
