Royal and Sarkozy equal in poll
Six days to go until the first round of voting and a new CSA poll puts Socialist Segolene Royal equal against challenger Nicolas Sarkozy in the second round, one of the first polls to do so in months. While the Ipsos daily poll still shows a 6 point gap between the two candidates in round two, it also gives both Royal and Sarkozy comfortable leads against Bayrou and Le Pen in the first round.
The other number to watch is the percent of voters undecided. While newspapers still refer to roughly 40% indecision, the Ipsos poll says that that number has shrunk to 33%, not a large difference, but a sign that the French may be making their minds up after all.
